Awareness course for managers and supervisors to improve workplace safety

The Importance of Awareness

The Importance of Awareness

On 9th February this year the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) hosted a major conference in Coventry on fork lift truck safety at which they gathered the views and opinions of people from all sectors of British industry on how to further raise awareness and improve safety for people working with and around fork lift trucks.

One of the most common suggestions on how to achieve this from delegates and experts at the conference was the pressing need for managers and supervisors to properly monitor and manage the fork lift operators under their control. Since the introduction of the Health and Safety At Work Act in 1974 there has been a legal requirement for employers to ensure that their staff are adequately trained and supervised therefore managers or supervisors must be competent to manage their staff;

“Every employer shall ensure that any of his employees who supervise or manage the use of work equipment has received adequate training for purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using the work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken” PUWER 1998 - Regulation 9

Managers and supervisor training solutions

To fulfil this requirement, Mentor have revised and updated its Safety Managers Awareness course and re-launched it in modular form. This course is the ideal solution for any manager or supervisor with full or part time responsibilities for fork lift operations or for staff working near or around them. The 2 part course lasts for 6 hours in total and with costs of just over £40 per delegate* represents an excellent investment of both time and money.
