Manage to be Safe - Mentor Supports FLTA Safety Week - How can you?

National Fork Lift Safety Week, launched in 2008 by the Fork Lift Truck Association continues again in 2010 to raise awareness of the inherent dangers for both those who operate and those who work around fork lift trucks. While statistics show that there has been a decline in the number of accidents and incidents involving fork lift trucks the numbers still reveal that hundreds of people are injured every year and on average one person is killed every six weeks in a fork lift related incident.

This year’s safety week focuses on the directors, managers and supervisors of fork lift operations and the environment that this equipment is operated in. The “Manage to Be Safe” campaign highlights the importance of awareness by all, an issue high on the HSE’s agenda of ways to reduce the number of accidents and lost working time through incidents involving fork lifts.Managers and supervisors must be aware of their legal obligations and the need to ensure that the workplace and employees under their charge are safe.
