Northern, Southern and Midland heats have been held during the year, and the three regional winners; Roy Cleaver from Alsford Timber, Allan Cooper from Timbmet and Mark Thompson from GAP, will be battling it out over an exacting course. In order to get to this stage, each finalist has had to fend off stiff competition by demonstrating his ability to control and manoeuvre a C4000 Combilift in much narrower aisle widths than would typically be experienced in the workplace.
“Once you are familiar with the Combilifts, they are actually very straightforward to operate,” says UK Product Director Roy Redman, “but we will be adding extra challenges by designing a course which involves picking up and carrying large and bulky loads around obstacles, figure of eights and tight corners, sideways, backwards and forwards, all against the clock, with penalties for unsafe operation!”
Mentor has been closely involved with the regional heats, and Mentor staff will be travelling to Ireland to judge and mark each driver’s performance to ensure the highest quality of adjudication.
