Mentor helps to spread the word on Fork Lift Safety

Mentor featured on television yesterday when appearing in the East Midlands Today’s feature “Fork Lift Training Tackled” in support of this week’s National Fork Lift Safety Week.

The feature covered the story of Lisa Ramos who lost her leg in a terrible accident involving a fork lift truck at a Nottinghamshire company in 2006.

Lisa is now sharing her experience and fronting the national campaign launched by the Fork Lift Truck Association to help raise awareness of the dangers posed to pedestrians when working in an area where fork lift trucks are in operation.

Two thirds of the injuries received in fork lift truck accidents are not actually to the people operating the trucks but to pedestrians. Mentor believes that more emphasis needs to be placed on making people aware of the dangers that they are faced with when working in close proximity with workplace transport.

Companies with fork lift truck operations should be committed to ensuring operators of the equipment are correctly trained and that all managers and supervisors are aware of the inherent dangers of fork lift operations. It is vital that this information is communicated to all employees and visitors to help them stay safe, reduce the number of accidents and save lives.
