Nowadays all responsible companies fully accept the benefit of investing in proper training of their workplace transport operators – not only to improve productivity and reduce damage but also in the interests of safety and protecting the company from expensive fines or legal action.
Continuing Mentor’s expansion, our new Scottish training centre opened earlier this month and offers a full range of fork lift truck operator and instructor training courses.
Earlier this year Mentor took over the Materials Handling Training Centre on the Corus site in Redcar, Teesside. Now after refurbishment the centre is open for other customers to take advantage of the excellent facilities.
A year ago Mentor were busy filming our five part fork lift truck training DVD series - The Lifters. Since the release in February 2008 the DVDs have received a great response from the companies that have purchased them and some of the industries leading accrediting bodies and trade associations.
Further training courses for our Extractives Division continue to be developed. Courses for Agricultural Tractor, Dozer, Compactor and Backhoe Loader have now been mapped to EMP accreditation, with an additional module being tagged onto the excavator courses for the use of Quick Hitches.

Mentor featured on television yesterday when appearing in the East Midlands Today’s feature “Fork Lift Training Tackled” in support of this week’s National Fork Lift Safety Week.

The final of the Combilift 2008 Driver of The Year competition is being held at the company’s HQ in Monaghan on Tuesday, September 9th, as part of the company’s 10th anniversary celebrations, which are also taking place that week.

Mentor has recently become an associate member of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association following a thorough audit of the company and of all the course material.
It means that a training course has been externally monitored by a suitably qualified and competent authority and has been judged to provide the necessary content and skills assessment to make the successful candidate competent.
The newly released Lifters DVD’s have certainly impressed the Fork Lift Truck Association who recently endorsed them stating “These DVD’s will undoubtedly be a great help in the training of operators.....

In recent years there has been a huge increase in the use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP’s), also known as Access Platforms or Cherry Pickers, across all types of applications and industries.

The HSE has issued a safety alert to all users of excavators fitted with a quick hitch devise following four fatalities and a number of incidents on constriction sites since December 2006. This alert states that HSE inspectors have been encouraged to take robust and appropriate action where quick hitches are found to be in use without the adequate precautions in place.

The riders waited in excited anticipation, their mounts poised for action, with the course in prime condition. But this competition at Sandown Park involved forklifts rather than horses, as it was the Southern regional heat of the Combilift Driver of the Year event, held on the first day of the Health & Safety 08 Show.

Combilift Ltd will be holding the first of its 2008 Regional Driver of the Year competitions during the Health and Safety 08 Show at Sandown Park. It will be overseen and judged by Mentor Training, the UK’s leading provider of operator training, and will take place on the first day of the show.
