This week sees the launch of the first ever National Fork Lift Truck Safety Week - an initiative devised by the Fork Lift Truck Association to raise awareness of the dangers involved with not only operating fork lift trucks but working around them.
Statistics reveal that more than one UK worker per day is seriously injured in a fork lift truck accident – more than cars and HGVs put together and one person is killed every six weeks. It may come as a surprise to many people that two thirds of those people killed are pedestrians.
As the UK’s leading provider of nationwide operator training for all types of fork lift trucks, Mentor is fully aware of the dangers surrounding this type of equipment. Training is vital, not only for the operators of the trucks but for anyone who may encounter them in the workplace.
This year Mentor will train over 35,000 operators to use fork lift trucks and will be promoting their managers and supervisors responsible for staff operating this type of equipment. Delegates attending Mentor’s Fork Lift Truck Safety Awareness course will be made aware of the dangers surrounding fork lift truck operations, the basics of safe operation, the rules and regulations of law and what to look out for when working in an active environment.
Mentor fully supports the new initiative from the FLTA and is keen to encourage companies with fork lift truck operations to raise awareness of the dangers of this equipment to management, employees and the public. The Employee Safety book, developed by the FLTA - providing advice for both employees and employers of working with fork lift trucks - is now available to purchase from Mentor’s online shop.
